Beli Iskar - Tourist Information

The pretty village of Beli Iskar has been a favourite location for summer outdoor activities for a long time. The area is ideal for sports such as horse-riding, rock-climbing rafting, mountaineering and dirt-bike riding as well as walking and pony-trekking.

As part of the Super Borovets project, this little village is also about to become part of a major winter tourist attraction. Beli Iskar is one of the most beautiful places along the scenic Iskar Valley. The Iskar river meanders through forests and pasture land and the river-side paths are delightful. The tourist authorities have placed strategic signposts to help ramblers find their way and have provided seating areas so the tourists can rest and enjoy a picnic. Cute wooden bridges lead from one side of the river to the other and allow tourists to explore the countryside on both sides of the valley.

Through the Super Borovets project, improvements to the facilities in and around Beli Iskar will include:

• A number of ski runs which will connect the village to the major ski resort of Borovets
• Two 4-chair ski lifts will connect Beli Iskar village to Borovets
• All the village roads will be improved
• The main road from Beli Iskar to Borovets road will be upgraded and improved
• Additional roads will be built
• Holiday chalets will be built just outside the village. The chalets will have a capacity of 7,000 beds.
• Activities such as off-road safaris will be offered in the mountains around the village
• Sports centres will be built, including snow stadiums that will offer facilities for children, indoor ski runs and sledging facilities
• Additional indoor entertainment facilities, such as cinemas, will be provided
• Swimming and fishing facilities will be offered along the Iskar river
• The walkways and paths will be extended and improved to provide a 2,697 decare eco-trail

There will be a major emphasis on ecological tourism. Small and friendly hotels will be built and there will be museums where tourists can learn about local traditions and folklore. There will be a new art centre where holidaymakers can learn traditional Bulgarian arts and crafts, woodcraft and traditional Bulgarian cooking.
