Borovets - Tourist Information

Borovets is the longest-standing winter resort in Bulgaria, with a history dating from 1896. Borovets is now one of the biggest and most modern winter holiday resorts in Bulgaria. Located amidst mature pine woods 1,390 metres above sea level, it is a perfect place for outdoor activities and relaxation. The capital city of Sofia (with its international airport) is approximately 70 kilometers away. The town of Samokov is just 12 kilometres away, and there is a frequent bus service between Borovets and Samokov.

Winters in Borovets are relatively mild, and yet the resort offers plenty of snow for winter sports. Generally, the ski slopes of Borovets are covered with snow from mid-December until April. The air in Borovets is very healthy, being free of any pollutants.

Borovets offers excellent conditions for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. There are ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers, all with international markings and multilingual signs. The highest pistes are 2,600 metres above sea level, and all the pistes are well maintained. There are fourteen snow cannons, so good snow cover is assured, whatever the winter weather offers. The Borovets ski school is renowned for being one of the best in Bulgaria.

The Super Borovets project, which is one of the largest current projects in Bulgaria, will encompass the area from Samokov to the village of Beli Iskar. The project includes the provision of new and improved ski and leisure facilities and is designed to ensure that Borovets retains its position as one of Bulgaria's premier international ski resorts.
