The majority of tourists who visit Bulgaria will spend their time sunbathing on the beaches or speeding down the snowy slopes of the ski resorts. Those that fail to visit the Bulgarian cities will never know what they have missed. The image that many westerners have of Bulgarian towns and cities is that of drab, lifeless places full of Soviet-style tenaments. Yes, many of the cities do contain areas like this, but they also contain many beautiful buildings (both historic and modern) and a plethora of bars, restaurants, pavement cafes, casinos and nightclubs. They are home to thriving communities who spend the days working and the nights partying. What is more, an increasing number of large, multi-national companies are opening business centres in the Bulgarian cities. As the number of business visitors increases, the property developers strive to keep on top of the new demand for luxury accommodation. With Bulgaria's entry into the European Union, the cities (and particularly the capital, Sofia) are likely to continue expanding and developing at a spectacular rate. |
