Bansko Tourist Information

Bansko is situated in the South of Bulgaria and it is the gateway to the Pirin mountain region. Bansko offers a spectacular combination of picturesque mountains and ancient history. With its combination of cobbled streets and traditional alpine-style houses, it truly is a delight to the eye.

Over the last few years, Bansko has been the subject of a major scheme of development and improvement. It is now the country's leading ski resort. Bansko is a real alternative to the Alpine resorts; this charming little town will impress any skier who appreciates well-groomed slopes with modern infrastructure, set in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.

Bansko offers excellent skiing conditions. The Pirin Mountains have a predominantly Alpine character with two peaks towering to over 2900 metres. Bansko resort has an excellent record for snow and ski conditions in winter. The snow quality is excellent and the slopes are well maintained by grooming machines and snow cannons. Generally, Bansko has snow from December until May. This is one reason why the resort plays host to some of the top skiing competitions in Europe.

Bansko is very popular with skiers and snowboarders of all levels and the resort offers over 65 kilometres of marked ski runs. Bansko has a good ski school and is an ideal place to learn to ski. Don't worry if you are a practised skier though - you won't get bored on the new "Alberto Tomba" black run.

Bansko is also very popular as a summer mountain resort, offering a wide choice of outdoor activities. There are opportunites to participate in sports such as hiking, fishing, canoeing, or horse riding. You can relax and even go swimming in the warm waters of the mineral springs. The introduction of a new golf course, designed by Ian Woosnam, is a great addition to the excellent amenities at the resort. Bansko is most certainly a destination with great potential - take advantage of this superb investment opportunity.

With the assistance of funds from the EU, a fast new road has been built from Sofia down to the Greek border. This means that Bansko is now only about 90 minutes from Sofia airport. What's more, you can drive from Bansko to the popular Greek beach resort of Thessaloniki (which also has an international airport) in the same amount of time.
