Pamporovo is a pretty ski resort which lies in the stunning Rodopi Mountains. It is set amongst magnificent pine forests and, in addition to being a popular winter ski resort, it is also a popular tourist attraction during summer.
Pamporovo is one of the most southern ski resorts in Europe and is known for its winter sunshine. It is a family resort and caters for all ages. There is a ski kindergarten and the slopes are gentle enough for the youngest of learners. Many of the ski instructors speak English and German.
Pamporovo took its name from the convoys of mules driven by a local man, Raicho Belev. These mules followed each other, carrying goods, like the wagons of a train. The name therefore derives from the Turkish word for train (pampor).
Pamporovo is the starting point for a number of hiking routes.
Although Pamporovo is currently not growing at the same rapid rate as Bansko, there are still ample places to eat and enjoy the apres-ski entertainment.
