Samokov is a large town of around 30,000 inhabitants and it lies at the foot of the Rila Mountains. Samokov is approximately 60 km south-east Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria, and is less than 12 km from the charming ski resort of Borovets.
Samokov is a very attractive town, with a fantastic mild climate and is surrounded with rich forest coniferous forests. Its location makes Samokov a popular destination for mountain hikers and for people who want to explore the nearby Monasteries. There are hourly busses between Sofia and Samokov, numerous museums and attractions to visit, and some great hotels to stay in.
